Apologies for the lack of updates everyone! Hopefully nobody thinks that our latest project is dead, as it's far from it.
The past month has been crazily busy for Chris and I. We've been dealing with graduating from USC (finally), working on The Entitled, and finding part time jobs to avoid homelessness while we're preparing and shooting the movie.
We narrowly avoided a scary situation in which we would have had to push back the start date for shooting our film by at least several weeks. Our producers were not able to have everything ready in time for our scheduled start date of July 1st, so over the past week, Chris and I have completely taken the reins in producing this movie. Now we have help from Kevin Gottschalk as well, making this another Oh Good Production all the way. From sun up to sun down, everyday we're working faster than ever to get this project ready to film by July 1st.
Here is an idea of our current status -
-We have all of our main characters cast, with Jeff Randhawa filling out the one central role for which it was so difficult for us to find a fitting actor. Jeff will be joining us all the way from Canada and will be a great match for the character.
-We have a director of photography in Hannah Vollenweider, who we're confident is going to do an excellent job shooting her first feature length picture with us.
-We have most of the minor characters cast after holding Oh Good's first formal casting call and finding some great new talent for the movie.
-We recently lost our production designer, but have replaced him with... well, ourselves. We spent part of our day today at the garment district downtown grabbing some interesting set dressing materials for what will be our most strangely and elaborately decorated location (which is actually our apartment).
-We have a good amount of the many locations we'll need, and are tracking down more everyday. We'll even be filming one scene at the same diner that was used for the beginning of Reservoir Dogs. Some other difficult locations we've locked down include a full greenscreen stage, a bar, and a frat house interior. Here's a little sneak peak at a few of our location scouting photos.
There are so many different kinds of details to work out for a film of this scale, but with the team of talented cast and crew we have with us, I know this is going to be a really special film. If all goes to plan, we'll finish filming July 22nd, and I can proceed to a much simpler lifestyle consisting of working by day and editing by night. Updates may continue being sparse due to the sheer amount of work sitting before me for this movie, but I will do my best to write up a couple more brief posts before filming starts.
